Who is this maya mitteN?
Greetings and welcome to my cyber portal..my name is Maya aka Miss Mitten and I am an artist who dabbles mostly in old school cut and paste collage using the Kodachrome palette of old National Geographics and old album covers to create new images and pop up books. I use my talents to teach others in both a one to one context or in group sessions and have taught in the Saatchi Gallery in London, Bristol College and Hamburg in Germany as well as in my local community here in West Wales.
I work from the Clocktower Art Studio which is based in Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire in the Wild West of Wales - this is a space that acts as an open studio/gallery/shop and also as a teaching space.
You can find the famous Magic Wardrobe - a travelling portal of illusion 'moored' up here too!
I also run From The Hip - a small but perfectly formed shop upstairs in Tangled Parrot record shop at 32 King Street in Carmarthen selling posters, prints, cards and books and is open Monday - Saturday 10am - 5.30pm
In my spare time I work in a fruit & veg shop and provide friendly banter and a listening ear to keep my feet on the ground and walk the hills to keep me well.
Something else that brings me much joy is music - especially reggae/dub and soundsystem culture (though my my musical tastes are very broad and not just limited to this genre..) which has been a love since I first heard the likes of IJahman and Steel Pulse some 35 years ago - little did I know that 35 years later I would be a well established 'Selectress' playing the music I love to dance floors from Wales to Germany as well as providing my art and design for album covers for the likes of the Irie-Ites,Tuff Scout and Echo Beach record labels and promotions for events within the scene; I was heavily involved in the organisation of the Clifftop Reggae Party 2016 and still continue to be involved in putting on nights here in Wales.
